On 20 June 2018, the Cameroon National Shippers' Council (CNSC), which is an administrative public establishment, rolled out a red carpet to receive the Minister of Transport, Jean Ernest Ngalle Bibehe at its premises. The minister who was accompanied by Dr. Mefiro Oumarou, Minister Delegate to the Minister of Transport and a large delegation from the Ministry was in Douala as part of a contact tour of his Douala-based field offices and corporations under his supervisory authority.
Prior to the working session at the CNSC Headquarters, the Minister and his entourage were welcomed by the General Manager, Mr. Auguste Mbappe Penda at the Douala Maritime Museum. Full of admiration, Minister Ngalle Bibehe commended CNSC's realisation which tells the maritime history of Cameroon. The Transport Minister was also shown around CNSC's projects within the port of Douala, namely two storage warehouses of 1,000m² each under construction.
After the field visit, the minister had a working session at CNSC's head office. The Minister who was visiting the CNSC for the first time after his appointment on 2 March 2018 was given a standing ovation in a well decorated hall packed to capacity.
Here again, Mr. Auguste Mbappe Penda welcomed the Minister of Transport who was treated to a series of presentations highlighting CNSC's missions, achievements and projects realised through three technical departments namely, the Department for Assistance to Shippers (DAC), the Department for Trade Facilitation and Transport Observatory (DFAL) and the Operations and Projects Department (DOP). To this should be added the National Trade Facilitation Committee (NTFC) whose Permanent Secretariat is hosted by the CNSC.
Taking the floor, the Minister of Transport thanked the staff for their warm welcome. Reacting to the problems raised by the General Manager regarding the lack of funding to carry out some large-scale projects, the minister asked the CNSC "to think about diversifying its sources of revenue". He also urged CNSC Management to do more in the area of assistance to shippers in order to effectively combat port congestion. The visit end with a guided tour of the Shippers' Cyber, the ECTN Office and the Documentation Centre. Visibly satisfied with CNSC's work and achievements, the minister reassured management that the Ministry of Transport and Government will continue to support its activities.
